Kedainiai is a town in Lithuania’s Midlands surrounded by Nevezis River and about 51 km to the north of the second biggest city Kaunas. Two rivers Dotnuvele and Obelis meet with Nevezis in Kedainiai. Around 31 000 people live in this town.

Kėdainiai Old City Kedainiai is one of the seven Lithuanian towns which still has unique historical and urbanistical monument – The Old Town. It attracts a lot of tourists from Lithuania, abroad and every year it is more maintaining place in town.

City Hal City Hall in Old Town is one of three remaining in Lithuania. The old City Hall rebuilt in 1653 – 1654 from two-story house and was L shape and had a clock tower. City Hall rotted after 1770 fire. The building was restored in 1960 and 1983 and now holds Art Gallery and Civil Registry Office.

   

Evangelic – Reform church Evangelic – Reform church dated 1631 – 1653 is Renaissance style with four baroque towers similar to a fortress. It holds restored dukes Radvilai sarcophagus. This is the only one of its kind in Lithuania.

From 17-th century six market squares were formed

Old Market SquaresBig Market Squares in Kedainiai and four still remain in Old Town in present times.

House of Ceslovas Milosas Nobel Prize winner and writer Ceslovas Milosas proclaimed his native Seteniai situated on the left bank of Nevezis. Nowadays restored estate house holds modern Ceslovas Milosas Culture Centre. Juozas Urbsys (1896 – 1991) Minister for Foreign Affairs in Independent Lithuania is another famous person born in Seteniai.

Photo gypsum “mountains” JSC “Lifosa” chemical company in which grounds are situated famous and unique photo gypsum “mountains”. Photo gypsum is the leftovers which appear in a phosphorus acid making process. The waste is stored since 1968 and now contains 21 mln. ton.

Minaret Kedainiai Minaret (Mosque) is the only one in Lithuania and was built around 1880 by Kedainiai estate house governor and tsar army general E. Totlebenas. It was used as an observation tower for governor’s guests. Minaret was restored in 2007.
